DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1: MONKEY DAY 

  • Pick up at 7:30am from your hotel

    Visit the Central Market Place of Leticia, where locals gather from surrounding indigenous communities to sell fresh fish and fruit from the region 

  • 9:00am: 2hr boat trip up the Amazon River from Leticia to the indigenous community of Mocagua 12:00pm:

  • Lunch in the indigenous community of Mocagua

  • After lunch, visit the Maikuchiga Foundation in the indigenous community Mocagua to see different species of wild monkeys (boquiblanco, maicero, churuco), they are playful and you can feed them if you like

  • Boat ride to Puerto Nariño, looking for pink and gray dolphins along the way 

  • Go to your hotel to leave your things and freshen up 

  • Visit Alto del Aguila to see different species of monkeys (squirrel monkeys and titi monkeys) and macaws

  • Dinner in Puerto Nariño

  • 1hr night walk to look for scorpions, tarantulas, poisonous frogs and insects

  • Overnight in your Hotel in Puerto Nariño

DAY 2: LAKE TARAPOTO 

  • 7:30am: breakfast in Puerto Nariño

  • Private boat trip to the indigenous community by Lake Tarapoto

  • Meet an additional guide from the indigenous community for a jungle hike (dry season June to December) or canoe trip through flooded jungle (rainy season December to June) to see the ceiba tree, the largest tree species in the Amazon

  • Lunch in a family house in the indigenous community of Tarapoto, cooked by mothers of the community

  • Go out to Lake Tarapoto to learn traditional fishing techniques to fish piranhas, sardines and other fish (please know fishing is much easier during the dry season from June to December), enjoy a refreshing swim and catch the beautiful sunset

  • Night boat trip to look for caimans and enjoy the jungle by night

  • Typical Amazonian dinner cooked by mothers of the community

  • Sleep in the traditional cabin in Tarapoto

DAY 3: PUERTO NARIÑO JUNGLE

  • Breakfast in Puerto Nariño 

  • Go out by boat for another chance to see pink and gray dolphins in the Amazon River, their natural habitat.

  • Then travel by boat to the nearby Lake Yolvino to look for wild sloths, birds, and iguanas in their natural habitats. *During rainy season (December to June) you will also use traditional canoes to paddle by the river and into the flooded jungle. 

  • Jungle hike to visit Wochine Reserve and see the pirarucu, the largest fish species in the Amazon, as well as caimans and turtles

  • Return to Puerto Nariño for lunch 

  • Try delicious homemade ice cream made from Amazonian fruits 

  • 3:30pm: take the speed boat back to Leticia, the tour ends at 5:30pm

  • One of our team members will pick you up at the port of Leticia, and take you to the center of Leticia

  • End of tour
